As a kid it always seemed strange to me that I had to brush my teeth before I went to the dentist, where they would clean them again. I always thought I should get to eat a bunch of oreos before going to the dentist's and let them take care of it.

They Might Be Giants

Here's the finished portrait illustration of John and John from They Might Be Giants. I really wanted to do a good job with this illustration since I've been a huge fan of theirs for years. As I began painting, I tried to push color more in this piece than I usually do to add a more dynamic feeling to the piece, as well as to help accentuate the toy bobblehead concept. You'll be able to find this in the January/February issue of Skope Magazine.

These are preliminary character sketches for a project that I'm working on with a friend. I'm undecided whether they characters should be a bit more cartoon-slash-stylized as opposed to being this realistic in style. I'll post more versions of the character later.

I just finished this sketch for an article about They Might Be Giants. After thinking about the assignment I decided that it would be a fun idea to do John and John as bobbleheads. And so far I'm pretty pleased with the result.

There is a definite class system in candy. You have your top tier candies which are your Snickers, Resse's, Milky Way and so on. Then there are the second tier candies including your Mounds, Kit-Kat, Baby Ruth, etc. And every year there was somebody who gave you those odd, unpopular candes like Mary Jane's and Bit 'O Honey, which always annoyed me as a kid.

Charlie Rose

This piece never actually saw print since the article was killed by the magazine for some reason, but I was extremely pleased with the way that it came out. Originally from Austin, Charlie Rose is a local Boston-based folk musician. I loved the idea of doing this in a pseudo american folk art style, which just accentuated the banjo in his arms and the whole sense of folk music.

Scott Weiland Vs. Jim Morrison

This article for Skope magazine that I had to illustrate gave me a huge panorama of people and bands to play with. In the end I decided that I really found the play of Jim Morrison against Scott Weiland (or possibly Scott Weiland against Jim Morrison) to be the most fun and dynamic. Once I had that decided this piece really came together fast and I've been pleased with the result.

A Political Wide Stance

I thought I'd start things out here with a polital cartoon that I'd done recently. I personally liked this one since it suceesfully, and simply, incorporated two events that had been so prominent as of late. A wide stance? We don't have homosexuals in Iran? They almost make it too easy to come up with something.
